Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. Tracée is built to help you capture and revisit personal memories — not to monetize your data. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Our core principles:
- We collect only what we need to run and improve Tracée.
- Your voice traces are private to you by default.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your content to train general-purpose AI models for third parties.
- You can access, export, or delete your data.
1. Who we are and what this covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the Tracée mobile application, our website at yoursecondmemory.com, and related services we provide (collectively, the “Services”). It does not apply to third-party websites or services you may access through links in the app.
By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use.
2. Information we collect
We collect information when you provide it, when you use the Services, and in limited cases from third parties.
Information you provide
- Voice traces. When you record a trace, we process the audio and store the resulting transcript, metadata (such as date, duration, and channel), and any tags you add (people, places, notes). Your traces are private and not visible to other Tracée users.
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect information such as your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information from that provider (such as name and email) as permitted by your settings with them.
- Subscription information. If you purchase a paid plan through the App Store, Apple processes payment. We receive subscription status and related identifiers needed to unlock paid features — not your full payment card details.
- Communications. If you contact us for support or feedback, we keep a record of those messages so we can respond and improve the Services.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data. We collect information such as device type, operating system, app version, language, and how you interact with the Services (for example, features used and crash reports). This helps us fix bugs, maintain security, and understand what works.
- Log data. Our servers may record technical information such as IP address, timestamps, and request metadata when you use the Services.
- Approximate location. We may infer a general location (such as country or region) from your IP address to comply with law and offer relevant settings. We do not track your precise GPS location unless you explicitly grant that permission for a specific feature.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Our website may use cookies or similar technologies for basic functionality and to understand how visitors use the site. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Information from other sources
If you connect a third-party account (such as Sign in with Apple or Google), we receive information from that provider according to your authorization with them and their privacy policies.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide, operate, and maintain the Services, including transcription and sync;
- authenticate you and manage your account;
- process subscriptions and deliver paid features;
- send service-related messages, such as account or security notices;
- send optional reminders or product updates if you opt in;
- respond to support requests;
- monitor performance, fix errors, and prevent abuse or fraud;
- comply with legal obligations; and
- improve Tracée based on aggregated or de-identified insights.
We may use third-party processors to transcribe audio, host data, deliver notifications, or analyze crashes. They may access your information only to perform services for us and under contractual obligations to protect it.
4. How we share information
We share personal information only in limited circumstances:
- Service providers. Vendors who help us run Tracée — such as cloud hosting, speech-to-text, email, analytics, and customer support tools — may process information on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect the rights and safety of Tracée, our users, or others, or investigate fraud or security issues.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred. We will continue to protect it consistent with this policy or notify you of material changes.
- With your consent. We may share information when you direct us to or explicitly agree.
We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under applicable US state privacy laws. We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
5. How long we keep information
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
When you delete a trace or your account, we delete or anonymize associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records for legal, security, or backup purposes. Backup copies may persist for a limited time before being overwritten.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You use the Services at your own risk and should keep your device and account credentials safe.
7. Your choices
- Access and update. You can review and edit many details of your traces and account in the app.
- Delete. You can delete individual traces or your entire account from the app or by contacting us.
- Microphone. Tracée needs microphone access to record voice traces. You can revoke this permission in your device settings, though recording will no longer work.
- Notifications. You can manage push notifications and reminders in the app or your device settings.
- Marketing. If we send promotional emails, you can unsubscribe using the link in those messages. We may still send essential service communications.
- Uninstall. Removing the app stops further data collection from the app, though information already stored on our servers remains until you delete your account.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection law, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing include performing our contract with you, complying with legal obligations, protecting vital interests, our legitimate interests (such as improving and securing the Services), and your consent where required.
When we transfer personal data outside your region, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where required by law.
United States
Residents of certain US states may have additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion or correction, and opt out of certain sharing. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
If we deny a request, we will explain why. Where applicable, you may have the right to appeal our decision by replying to our response.
9. Children
Tracée is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it and close the account. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at contact@d6code.com.
10. Third-party services
The Services may integrate with or link to third parties — including Apple, Google, cloud providers, and analytics tools. Their handling of your information is governed by their own policies. For example, App Store purchases are subject to Apple's privacy practices.
11. International transfers
Tracée is offered globally. Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ. We take steps designed to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the app, website, or email where appropriate. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
